Photos, media and stories

A profile gallery holds photographs, video, audio recordings and documents. Audio matters more here than on most platforms: a recorded account from an elder is genuine evidence, not a nice extra.

• Give each item a title and description — it is what makes the archive searchable later.
• Name the people in a photograph and the year, even approximately.
• Credit the source: who took it, who kept it, who told the story.

Media uploaded to a living person's profile by someone other than its owner enters a pending state until that person approves it. They can approve it, or reject it with a reason.

The biography field is the part of a profile people actually return to read. Dates make a record; a biography makes a person.

• Write what you would want to know about an ancestor five generations from now.
• Record the ordinary detail — trades, migrations, languages spoken, what they were like.
• Where an account is uncertain or contested, say so in the text rather than presenting it as settled.
